It’s 2011 – time to update your IPTC

There’s a good reminder over in the flickr PFRE group to update your IPTC info. If you’re not sure how to do it here are some easy, step-by-step instructions for Bridge and Lightroom:

1) Open your “Tools” menu.
2) Choose “Edit Metadata Tempate” (assuming you’re currently using one**)
3) Scroll down to “Copyright Notice” and update to 2011
4) Click “Save” when you’re done.

**If you’re not using a Bridge Metadata Template it’s easy to create one. From the “Tools” menu choose “Create Metadata Template” and complete the necessary fields. I use the following fields in my template:
Creator: Job Title
Creator: Address
Creator: City
Creator: State/Province
Creator: Postal Code
Creator: Country
Creator: Phone(s)
Creator: Email(s)
Creator: Website(s)
Copyright Notice
Copyright Status

1) From the Library Module choose “Edit Metadata Presets” from the Metadata menu.
2) In the Preset dropdown at the top of the window choose your current template (it will default to Custom).
3) Update your Copyright to 2011 and click “Done” at the bottom of the window.
4) When asked if you want to change your changes click Save.
Note: If you don’t choose your current template from the Preset drop down you will not be able to update the current preset, you’ll need to create an entirely new template.
