Lighting for Real Estate Photography Video Giveaway!

Scott and I are really excited to launch our new Lighting for Real Estate Photography video series and to celebrate we’ve decided to give away a few subscriptions!  How do you get one?  Read on…

For us, success means making a difference in the industry. We think that the ideal person to receive this subscription is someone who is poised to take their photography to the next level.  Talk to us!  Tell us what your day to day challenges are.  Tell us what you want to improve in your photography.  Tell us how the Lighting for Real Estate Photography subscription help?  Easy, right?  Here’s the catch.

Since this is a video series all entries must be in the form of a video.  Don’t be scared.  Be creative!  Almost everyone these days has a video camera whether it’s the Canon 5d2, your iPhone or even a webcam.  Just be creative with it.  Give us something that will make us remember you!

Here are the official rules:
1) Video should be 30-60 seconds.  Much longer and we probably won’t make it to the end.
2) Video must be uploaded as a public video to YouTube with the following keywords: “Lighting for Real Estate Photography”, “Video giveaway”
3) Link to the video must be emailed to info@lightingforrealestatephotography.com.  Links left in the comments section of the blog may or may not be noticed.  Please email.
4) Entry must be uploaded and link emailed to us by February 15, 2012, 5:00 pm PST.
5) Send us your name, website, and email address in your email with your entry.  Your log in to the videos is with your email address so please send a real email address.  In return I promise not to share or sell it to  anyone.
6) By entering this contest you agree to let us (Malia Campbell Photography, Scott Hargis Photo) use your video entry to help promote our series.

Okay that’s enough fine print.  We’ll announce the winners at 9:00 am PST on Launch Day (scheduled for March 1st.  If we launch early you’ll be notified early).  Go shoot!  Be creative!  We’re looking forward to hearing from seeing you!

Elliott Hundley’s Agave

We went to the SFMoMA to see the Cartier-Bresson exhibit (which was amazing) but it was this piece that blew me away.  I’m still reeling.

Moving potraits

Did you know that I have a new puppy? I’m a little bit obsessed with her right now as she occupies most of my time and energy. She’s a four legged tornado (!) 40% of the time and the rest of the time she sleeps. I took advantage of this to work on a project I’ve had in mind for quite some time.

Remember the “Moving Portrait” trend? I remember seeing something about it on the Strobist blog (or maybe it was in the forum) and then I found this website and I’ve always wanted to try it. Teamed up with my burning desire to create a movie using just my iPhone, I created the following:

Make sure to watch to the end. If this doesn’t melt your heart then you’re obviously not paying attention. :)

UPDATED: eBook giveaway: The Essential Guide to: Lighting Interiors by Scott Hargis

10/5/10 Update: With the generous support and contributions of Larry Lohrman and Scott Hargis I’m pleased to announce that we will now be giving away FIVE of Scott’s books.

And!

Larry is generously contributing a copy of the Photography for Real Estate eBook *AND* a copy of The Business of Real Estate Photography eBook *AND* a one year Highlighted Real Estate Photography Directory entry.

So the lucky winners of my giveaway will receive all four:
– A copy of The Essential Guide to: Lighting Interiors, Techniques for lighting with small flash
– A copy of Photography for Real Estate
– A copy of The Business of Real Estate Photography
– A one year highlighted Real Estate Photography Directory entry

Giving back to the photographic community, especially one as supportive and tight knit as the Real Estate Photography community, is important to both Larry and Scott (and myself!). The idea of this giveaway began as a way to give a helping hand to new photographers who may not be able to afford start up resources and/or who may not know where to go for information. And, of course, to celebrate the launch of Scott’s book.

Thanks again to Larry Lohrman and Scott Hargis for their continued support of the industry and for donating the resources for this giveaway!

I fell into the world of real estate photography by chance (and maybe some luck?).  One day I noticed there was a “Lighting for Interiors” workshop being taught by some guy that I had never heard of and signed up on a total whim.  Now, two and a half years later, I’m completely obsessed with this somewhat obscure genre of photography.

There’s a lot to learn about photography for real estate.  Composition, lighting, running a getting business… for someone new to this field it can be overwhelming. I was incredibly lucky to have the ongoing advice, critique and mentoring of two of the industry’s biggest success stories: Scott Hargis and Dan Achatz. And yes, before you start cursing my name, I *do* realize how fortunate I am. And now I’d like to pass it along.

I’m giving away one of Scott Hargis’ eBooks: The Essential Guide to: Lighting Interiors, Techniques for lighting with small flash.

Here’s how you can win

New section

I have this little notebook that I carry around with me, everywhere I go.  My inspiration book.  When I see things I like, things I want to try, things that get me excited I tear them out and glue them into my little notebook.  It occurred to me that since I have a scanner now I no longer have to do the Tear-And-Glue thing anymore.  Since I already have four other wordpress blogs (I don’t know what’s wrong with me!) I decided to just add a section to this blog for these little inspirations.  Hey, maybe they’ll inspire you, too!

See the entries here.

Edit: I changed my mind. Since only some of the things in my notebook are photography related I’ve gone ahead and created a separate blog for these inspirations. Feel free to follow me over to TulipChain Inspired.

Just a little something

Remember when I blogged, back in OCTOBER(!) that I was really into shooting film? And how excited I was to start shooting on the Bronica? And then… nothing? Remember that?

I finally decided to do something about it. I finally broke down and bought a film scanner now that scans 35mm, 120 and 220 film (in addition to regular prints), a 50mm lens for the Bronny on the way (FedEx says it will arrive on Thursday) and two drawers in my fridge full of film. Now there’s nothing holding me back. Get ready.
